About

Gangneung Jungang Market is a representative traditional market located in the Seongnam-dong area of Gangneung. It was registered and opened on January 18, 1980, and has been actively operating ever since. It was the third market to open, following Dongbu Market in the east and Seobu Market in the west, and has served as a major distribution hub in downtown Gangneung. Stalls line the roads and alleys, trading local specialties year-round, allowing visitors to experience the vibrancy of a traditional market. Gangneung Jungang Market also preserves the local character of Gangneung. It is frequented by Gangneung citizens as well as residents from nearby farming and fishing villages along the East Coast, with a variety of items including agricultural and marine products, dried fish, and Gangneung's special ingredients. Every year during the Gangneung Danoje Festival, the area around Namdaecheon Danojang near the market becomes even more festive, bringing greater vitality to the market. Visitors can experience Gangneung's daily life and culture in this market where tradition and modernity harmonize.
