DDP (Dongdaemun Design Plaza) is a multi-cultural complex located in Dongdaemun, Seoul, with the meaning of Dream, Design, and Play. Since its opening on March 21, 2014, it has hosted major exhibitions, fashion shows, new product launches, forums, and conferences. It is divided into Art Hall, Museum, Design Lab, DDP Design Museum, Design Market, Oullim Square, and Dongdaemun History & Culture Park. The Art Hall has hosted Seoul Fashion Week, MAMA (Mnet Asian Music Awards), Van Cleef & Arpels exhibitions, and BMW new car launches, and features an international conference hall for multi-purpose events. The Museum has hosted the BTS exhibition and the Seoul Biennale of Architecture and Urbanism. The Design Lab, which includes the 'D-Forest' citizen lounge opened in 2019 with the theme 'Everyone is a Designer,' and the DDP Design Store introducing DDP-related souvenirs, all stimulate visitors' interest with their substantial content befitting their scale. The Design Market, with its restaurants, bakeries, and cafes, is also a perfect walking course for families or couples looking to recharge their emotions. There's a reason why photos of Dongdaemun Design Plaza's night view flood social media. Architect Zaha Hadid stated that when designing Dongdaemun Design Plaza, she "focused on the dynamism of Dongdaemun, which changes ceaselessly from early dawn to late night, creating a space where natural and artificial elements seamlessly connect with a unique architectural language of curves, curved surfaces, diagonals, and sloped surfaces." The true value of the dynamism provided by the curved sections is revealed when the lights come on at sunset and one can fully focus on the architecture. A good spot to take night view photos is the entrance to Oullim Square, where you can capture the grandeur of the interior and the mysterious atmosphere created by the building's materials.
