About
The Gyeongui Line was a railway connecting Yongsan and Sinuiju in the early 1900s. In the 2000s, the Yongsan Line section connecting Yongsan and Gajwa was 지하화 (undergrounded), and the long-neglected above-ground railway was transformed into a space for citizens as part of an urban regeneration project. The Gyeongui Line Forest Park, which was created in 2016, has a total length of about 6.3 km, with the forest path stretching through the city from Hyochang Park Station to Gajwa Station. Of this, the section from Gongdeok-dong to Yeonnam-dong belongs to Mapo-gu. Starting near Gongdeok Station, passing through the Yeomni-dong and Daeheung-dong sections between quiet residential areas, you reach the Waugyo section, which includes the Gyeongui Line Book Street, followed by the Yeonnam-dong section, known as Yeontral Park. The Yeonnam-dong alleys, which branch out like trees next to the forest path, are full of trendy cafes and unique workshops, offering plenty to see.
