Story

In "The Glory," Go isn't just a pastime; it's Moon Dong-eun's weapon to orchestrate her revenge. "You have to dismantle the house your opponent painstakingly built to win"—this is why writer Kim Eun-sook chose Go as her subject. And this very park is where Dong-eun's first lesson begins.

At 24 minutes and 8 seconds into Episode 2, Dong-eun and Yeo-jeong sit facing each other across a Go board as the seasons unfold. The tree that provided the backdrop for the scene—cherry blossoms falling, summer arriving, and ginkgo leaves turning a vivid yellow in autumn—still stands proudly in the heart of the park today. This is the Abgaksu, approximately 900 years old and designated as Chungbuk Monument No. 5. Its name, "Abgaksu," comes from its leaves resembling a duck's foot, and a legend tells of prisoners climbing it to escape a flood during the late Goryeo Dynasty.

Following the drama's release, foreign visitor numbers skyrocketed. According to the travel platform Agoda, Cheongju even climbed 16 spots in the hotel booking rankings for foreign visitors to Korea. When you actually visit the park, the drama scenes vividly come to life—especially in autumn, when the yellow ginkgo leaves perfectly recreate the show's memorable visuals.

Beyond the Abgaksu tree, the park is a treasure trove of historical relics, including the Byeongmajeoldosa Yeongmun (Chungbuk Tangible Cultural Heritage), Cheokhwabi Stele, Korean Independence Monument, and Mangseonnu Pavilion. Right next to the park, you'll find the original Jjoljjol Hotteok, a famed Cheongju specialty that often draws queues of 100 people. The park is also directly connected to the Seongangil shopping district, offering convenient access to shopping and dining.
